Volumetric rendering
Sometimes, in particular for architectural renderings, it's not important to have the exact replica of a 3D object, but it's more important to have a very low detail model to analyze spaces and volumes occupying.
The important things about the model are it's basic dimentions not the material it's made off or the internal components/parts.
In these situations we use a volumetric rendering just to be sure we're dealing with the exact dimentions. This way of rendering is normally used during Airport facilities studies or compatibility tests and in all the situations where we want to focus the clients attention of objects that are not the aircraft itself.
